Raiders of the Lost Ark was directed by Steven Spielberg, and stars Harrison Ford, Karen Allen, and Paul Freeman.
This is a classic. Raiders of the Lost Ark is the definition of the adventure genre.
The only real issue I have with this movie is that I feel like it almost movies too fast. It’s been a while since I’ve watched the Indiana Jones movies and I forgot how short this one was (1 hour, 55 minutes). You can nitpick about the dated special effects or how easy Nazis are to use as villains, but this is simply one of the greatest movies ever made.
Of course, having been done by the master himself, John Williams, the score is amazing and iconic. I can’t help but grin when the Raiders March begins to play.
The cinematography is solid. The scenes of the plane flying across the maps are cool. They’re a unique way to tell the audience where the characters are going without just putting the location in one corner of the screen.
The acting is good all around. Harrison Ford was perfect for the role of Indiana Jones. He’s the designated cool guy. While there are a couple cheesy lines here and there (“See you tomorrow, Indiana Jones!”), the dialogue is all around fun.
The action sequences are extremely well crafted. Everything from the opening to the car chase in Egypt is just great. They’re tense in a fun way.
The characters that Raiders of the Lost Ark creates, while generally not very complex, are amazing. Indiana Jones himself is legendary. Belloq is the good kind of hatable. Marion never gets annoying.
Raiders of the Lost Ark also makes an effective use of one liners and jokes.
I have to go with a 10/10 on this one.
