Hot Tub Time Machine was directed by Steve Pink, and stars John Cusack, Rob Corddry, Craig Robinson, and Clark Duke.
So, I understand that I was probably not at all part of the target audience for this movie. It’s a nostalgia trip for 80s kids. I get that, but I do have some genuine issues with this movie.
Hot Tub Time Machine did not have the strongest writing. It was kind of all over the place. For example, the whole thing with Craig’s wife cheating on him came out of nowhere, was used for one joke, and that was it.
That’s not to the jokes were bad, though. This movie was very funny. Like I said, I’m not the target audience for Hot Tub Time Machine, so there are probably a lot of subtle 80s references I didn’t understand, but the jokes I got were funny. The one liners were great as well.
There was some fluff to Hot Tub Time Machine too. That opening scene with Craig, for example. No reason for it.
The acting, however, was solid all around, which is pretty important for a comedy like this. The soundtrack was also good.
Honestly, I don’t have too much else to say. Hot Tub Time Machine was fine in my book. Not great but certainly not a failure.
